Learn to Skate
Our Learn to Skate program is designed to introduce skating to "kids" of all ages. All of our classes are age appropriate, have low student to teacher ratios, and are taught by qualified professionals instructors.
Our Learn to Skate program is an official United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA) program. Current membership is required for participation. For online registration, enter your USFSA Basic Skills # and your Club Name is On the Ice Skating School if you registered with us.
If the group Learn to Skate setting is not for you, Private Lessons are available. Please call the rink office at (717) 685-1401 for more information.
With Learn to Skate your skating experience is sure to be safe, fun and exciting one!
Clothing and equipment: bike or hockey helmets are required for ages 5 and under for head protection (no pointed fronts for the bike helmets). young skaters prefer to wear gloves. Dress in light layers, no flared bottom pants (safety issue), avoid snow pants or bulky coats. Wear clothing that allow for movement to get up after a fall. The rink temperature is approximately 40-45 degrees F.
SAFETY HELMET DETAILS: A hockey, skateboard or ski helmet (multi sport) will be suitable for using during beginning ice skating lessons. Contact a local sporting goods store for proper fit and information regarding ice approved safety helmets. A helmet should be both comfortable and snug. Be sure that it is level on their head-not tilted back on the top of the head or pulled too low over the forehead. It should not move in any direction. The chin strap should be securely buckled so that the helmet doesn't move or fall off during a fall or collision. For more information on U. S. Figure Skating's helmet policy, go to www.usfigureskating.org and then Basic Skills.
