Learn to Skate

Our Learn to Skate program is designed to introduce skating to "kids" of all ages. All of our classes are age appropriate, have low student to teacher ratios, and are taught by qualified professionals instructors.

Our Learn to Skate program is an official United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA) program. Current  membership is required for participation. For online registration, enter your USFSA Basic Skills # and your Club Name is On the Ice Skating School if you registered with us.

If the group Learn to Skate setting is not for you, Private Lessons are available. Please call the rink office at (717) 685-1401 for more information.

With Learn to Skate your skating experience is sure to be safe, fun and exciting one!

Clothing and equipment: bike or hockey helmets are required for ages 5 and under for head protection (no pointed fronts for the bike helmets). young skaters prefer to wear gloves. Dress in light layers, no flared bottom pants (safety issue), avoid snow pants or bulky coats. Wear clothing that allow for movement to get up after a fall.The rink temperature is approximately 40-45 degrees F.

Beginner Learn to Skate:

New skaters develop forward, backward, glide, and stopping skills in Basic Level 1 or Snow Plow Sam 1-3.

Learn to Skate:

Basic Level 2+ skaters further develop skate skills for both figure and hockey skating.

All participants in the USFSA Learn to Skate programs are required to be current members of USFSA ($12 per year June through May).

Mom's and Tot's Class

A great way to have fun and learn with your child and an introduction to skating for our younger skaters to learn in a playful manner.

  • SKILLS LEVEL:  All
    Designed so you can share the experience with your child age 5 and under

  • DATES, TIMES & FEES:  Please refer to Registration Form.
    Includes lesson and skate rental
    ($10 for each additional child + USFSA fee)
    ($10 walk-on + $12 USFSA fee if not a member)

RECOMMENDATIONS: bike (protective) helmets for ages 5 & under. Avoid snowpants and wear light layers.



Excel

Excel takes your skating to the next level. Learn basic spins, jumps, stroking, turns, and edges with an artistic flair. Artistry in Motion (AIM) is designed to educate skaters on the basic principles and philosophy of choreography and to give them a foundation in basic body alignment, movement and line. By incorporating AIM in conjunction with the USFSA Basic Skills Program, athletes will achieve a complete training package.

  • SKILLS LEVEL:  Badge 4 and Higher

    Freestyle Session

    • SKILLS LEVEL: 
      Freestyle (Practice:  Jumps, Spins, Competitive Program)

    • TIME:  45 minute Session
      Please refer to web calendar for any specifics dates or changes to regular schedule.

    • Regular Schedule            
      Mon  - 6:00am - 8:30am
      Mon  - 3:15pm - 5:30 pm                         
      Tues - 3:00pm - 5:15 pm
      Wed - 2:15pm - 6:15pm
      Thurs- 3:00pm - 5:00pm
      Fri     - 3:30pm - 5:00pm
    • COST:      $11 per session 



    Home Schooler’s Learn to Skate

    • SKILLS LEVEL:  All

    • DATE & TIME:      
      1 Hour Session  (½ Hour Lesson, ½ Hour Practice)
      Classes will resume in the fall. Please check back when schedule posts mid-August.

    • COST:      
      Includes lesson and Rental Skates
      Please refer to Registration Form for session cost
      For families w/3+ members who sign up - deduct $10 per person

    Note:  Please refer to CCA policy for payment coverage.

    We have a number of skilled trainers available to offer of skaters private instructions (listed in alphabetical order). Please contact coaches directly for schedule and rate information.
